The New York Capacity Building Collaborative is pleased to partner with collaborating consultants Janvieve Williams Comrie (Aligned Strategies Consulting) and Luz Rodriguez-Cintron (Visionary Allies) to provide customized leadership skills training specifically designed for social justice leaders of color.
We are accepting applications for Leadership Institute: An Anti-Oppression Training for Senior Leaders of Color, a one-day training, followed by a series of group and individual coaching sessions.
In these critical times that call for courageous and compassionate leadership, we recognize the benefit and strength that comes from having leaders of color at the helm of our social justice organizations. We also acknowledge that leaders of color face unique challenges. This workshop will help participants understand how dominant culture affects organizational culture, as well as how leadership styles differ and can at times be “oppressive” if we have not dealt with our own internalized oppression as people of color. The goal of this institute is to support and strengthen our leadership of color to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and support they need to find resilience to not just survive, but to strive as leaders while preventing structural racism from permeating our very own institutions whose mission is to liberate our communities from oppression.
Through the one-day training, and subsequent coaching sessions, participants will reflect and engage in activities geared towards how their own lived experiences of oppression can either hinder or advance their leadership styles, gain knowledge and successful strategies from their own peers, and receive personal mentorship while they implement new strategies and approaches to anti-oppression in nonprofit organizations.
One-Day Training: Monday, October 22nd, 9:00am – 5:00pm. A light breakfast, lunch and snack will be provided.
